Owen Craven is an independent arts writer, editor and curator. He is the Editor of ARTIST PROFILE and Art Almanac magazines.
A quarterly journal of in-depth and exclusive interviews with contemporary visual artists, ARTIST PROFILE engages creative leaders and emerging talent in conversations about their art and practice. Its commissioned photo shoots of artists offer an intimate glimpse into their working lives. Curators, scholars and industry professionals go into artist studios and discuss their art, in their words. ARTIST PROFILE offers readers the voice behind the art.
Art Almanac is Australia’s gallery guide – a monthly briefing on national art news, reviews and exhibitions. Since 1974, Art Almanac has proudly published the most comprehensive gallery exhibition listings in the country. The magazine features extended exhibition reviews and a national roundup of current shows as well as a dynamic and comprehensive online offering.
Owen’s latest curatorial project is Not the Way Home. The project saw him lead 13 prominent Australian artists to Fowlers Gap, part of the Arid Desert of north-west New South Wales. The tour was recorded through a live daily blog managed by ABC Open and has been further documented in a special edition – Issue 18 – of ARTIST PROFILE. The final instalment of the project is a national, touring exhibition that opens at Sydney’s S. H. Ervin Gallery in May 2012.
